D.R.E.A.M. Team

Terry Nelson, former University of Cincinnati basketball star, was raised in the city by a single mom. As he grew up, he saw friends lose their lives to violence, drugs and gangs.

With no father to turn to, God placed ‘coaches’ in his life. Thanks to these relationships and life lessons learned from playing the game of basketball, he avoided the streets and went to college. While at UC, he played on the Bearcat team that went to the Final Four in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. Since graduation, he has coached high school basketball and appeared on TV and radio.

Today, as an ordained minister, Terry has joined CityCURE to lead the D.R.E.A.M. Team, a ministry helping urban youth through basketball. The most unique aspect of the D.R.E.A.M. Team is the spiritual element. In each program, players and coaches are challenged to grow in and deepen their faith in Christ.

Traveling Basketball Clinics
CityCURE will ‘travel’ to help churches establish basketball clinics as a means to reach out to neighborhood youth in a fun, effective, and culturally relevant way. After the initial event, resources are provided for ongoing activities that will help volunteers build lasting relationships to positively impact the kids.

Summer Basketball Camps and Clinics
Each summer, The D.R.E.A.M. Team holds one or multiple-day basketball camps and clinics. Current and former college and pro basketball players provide quality instruction with a strong emphasis on the youths’ character development.

Afterschool Basketball Programs
CityCURE can help volunteer coaches from churches set up extracurricular basketball activities at a local school, while also providing resources to keep building positive relationships with the youth through continuing basketball activities.

AAU Basketball
AAU Basketball provides a unique opportunity for urban youth who have advanced basketball skills. This program recruits teens already playing for high school teams and offers them a high level of coaching and competition.
