Mentors Change Lives

Mentor a ChildOne in three children in Cincinnati lives in poverty. The Ohio Department of Education reports that more than 37% of children enrolled in the Cincinnati City School District are not proficient in reading. Sadly, more than 23% of all students in this district do not graduate from high school.

CityCURE cares about these hurting kids and their futures. We offer a wide variety of programs for youth but most importantly, we help children have one-to-one relationships with caring adult mentors.

Mentored youth are:
46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
27% less likely to begin using alcohol
52% less likely to skip school
33% less likely to engage in acts of violence

Mentored youth are also more likely to have greater self-esteem, have confidence in their schoolwork, get along better with their friends and families, and attend college.

Are you interested in becoming a mentor?
CityCURE needs committed and caring women and men to volunteer with at-risk children. After at least six months volunteering in a group setting, volunteers become eligible to mentor a child one-to-one. Becoming a mentor is a serious commitment that will change the life of a child. It will change your life too.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please attend one of our Mentoring Training and Information Sessions. This training is required for all current mentors and open to anyone interested in learning more. These sessions include information about mentoring qualifications, expectations, setting boundaries, safety, and more. Please contact Mike Meece to RSVP at mmeece@citycure.org or call (513) 276-0179.
